DVDx stopped working properly!

I got dvdx 2 10 from Tips4pc and it was great! It was easy to use, to understand and didd everything I needed. I find there is so many other complicated steps with turning a dvd disc into an avi file. Two days ago it stopped working properly. Its still turning VIDEO_TS files (that I get from DVD Decryptor) into avis but now its annoyingly leaving the last 10 minutes of each film out and making it a seperate file (eg. Hellboy II.avi -which is 1hr 44min- and Hellboy II_02.avi -which is 10min)!!!! I haven't fiddled with any settings since downloading. PLEASE HELP! I'm still a computer novice so please be gentle, lol

Hi spike and welcome to the Forum!
I've never used DVDx, but I downloaded it to have a look.
The best I can suggest is you are limiting the file size, and its making a new file to carry whatevers left over when you created the AVI.

When I loaded a DVD file into it, it showed, in the output settings, that it was going to make a video cd, with resolution of 352x288.
It showed in the 'Volume dont exceed' panel "custom size" .
If I click on custom size, then I see it says 'Volume dont exceed' with value of 730MB, yet the estimated size of the file (in the panel just above that) is 953.3MB. I assume this means that I would get a second file with the remainder which doesnt fit.



If I switch the settings to creating AVI file, as below.. reset the resolution to the same as the original movie (720x576 in this case) you'll now see that it shows the estimated size as unknown.
Its still on Custom size, and the max volume is still 730MB. This will be considerably larger than the VCD file as I've changed the resolution, and its going to have even more space left over.



My suggestion would be to open the drop down box entitled Volume dont exceed, and change that setting to infinite. This means it should create a single large file, I assume.

I'd also be curious to know how long it took you to create the file. I have an extremely fast computer with all the good gear, and it looks like it could easily take 12 hours for this conversion to take place. Perhaps I need some help too!! lol

Please let me know how you go, and if you are still having problems, or if it does take a huge amount of time to convert for you too.

Thats cool how you found the answer without using the program...and you are right too....on the output settings the estimated size can split your end result into two parts.. Check your settings and see if this applies to you. Hope it does because its a great free program.

But I did have to download and try to use the program lol...

I guess I also need some instruction, because to answer this question and to further test the program, I am converting a video.
I was able to see a possible answer to Spike's problem, but now I have one of my own.

After 4 hrs, the conversion is showing 11.1%. I'm used to any kind of video conversion taking an hour or less from scratch, depending on how large the video is and how complicated the protection is.

With this video, the protection is already removed, as will Spike's video I assume as he already has video ts files. Anyone know why it will take 40 hours at this rate to convert these files to AVI? What have I done wrong?

Further on the AVI conversion. I've given up. The program says I have been converting it for 3 hrs and 38 minutes, have converted 12 minutes and 40 seconds of movie, and I have 22 hrs and 40 minutes left to go with the conversion.

Heres another interesting point. I followed my own advice, and set the max file size to unlimited. Having just checked where I outputted the files to, and realised that I have 3 files already!!!!!

Thank you both so much! Wouldn't ya know it, the most obvious answer is the one I over looked! Hellboy II is now one file and have had no other issues. I'm not sure why it taking so long to convert for you though. I've converted about 6 films so far and none of them have taken more than 20mins! You'll have to let us know if it rectifies its self (incase it happens to this technical lackwit too! lol) Thanks again for your help!

the major reason i am having trouble with the speed seems to be that i am using a different codec and going for high resolution spike.. we are still trying to work out how i messed up and got multiple files

this just goes to show.. no matter how much you know.. and i think i know a lot lol.. though others might beg to differ.. there is always something new to learn...
