Firstly if you are using Word 2007 there is a new way to see all of your keyboard shortcuts right before your eyes. Simply press the ALT key and the keyboard shortcut shows up on the menu.
See this article for more details. How to show all Word 2007 shortcuts

This does not mean that the old keyboard shortcuts that we used for Word 2003 do not work in the new 2007 version, because most still do.

For example to cut text from a document you can still select the text, then press CTRL X to cut. Then press CTRL V to paste. But in word 2007 you can also select the text, press the ALT key, Press H (for home), Then press X to cut, Then find where you want to paste the text, press ALt, H, V.

I know this sounds a bit complicated but once you know what to press it is amazing how easy it is.

This is what I mean by it being easy.
Here's how to insert a picture into a word document using keyboard shortcuts?
To insert a picture into your word 2007 document simply press these keys on your keyboard in order.

ALT key
N key
P key

Have you got any cool keyboard shortcuts for Microsoft word 2003 or 2007...Sorry guys I am addicted to shortcuts. LOL

When you want to quickly insert a horizontal line into your Word document you do not have to type the line manually or even go to the Borders and Shading dialog box in the Ribbon. All you have to do is type three characters on your keyboard and a horizontal line will appear. There are six different shortcuts that create six different horizontal lines. I use this all the time. This is one of those shortcuts that really saves alot of time, and that's what its all about.

What do you type to make a quick horizontal line in Word?

--- (3 dashes) and then press enter = This will give you a straight thin line.
___ (3 underscores) and then press enter = This will give you a thicker, almost double layer horizontal line.
### (3 number signs) and then press enter = This will give you a thick line with two thin ones surrounding it.
*** ( 3 asterisk) and then press enter = This will give you a dotted horizontal line.
=== (3 equals signs) Then press enter = This will give you a long equal sign for the horizontal line.
~~~ (3 tides) then press enter = This will give you a zig zag horizontal line.
See the screenshot below to see the different horizontal lines this shortcut creates.
I really like this one.....You can select text, as much or as little as you like, then press CTRL + [ to decrease the size of your text. You can also press CTRL + ] to increase the size of your text. This is a great keyboard shortcut for me. Normally you have to select the text, go to the top bar, press the arrow to choose what size you want...this way you only have to press CTRL + either [ or ] to increase or decrease text size.
CTRL [ = decrease text size
CTRL ] = increase text size
You can also just keep pressing these keys and the text will get bigger and bigger...I love it....Hey Dak, let us know if Open Office can do similar??? It will be fun to compare them all...
To find out what keyboard shortcuts are available for a particular version of word simply press the F1 key to bring up help and then search for "keyboard shortcuts"
Cant find a keyboard shortcut for the font size yet in open office. an easy option though is to highlight the desired words, then right click. roll your cursor down to font, then size, and click on the desired font size.
The same applies to word count, I see no shortcut as yet but its easily available by clicking  on the tools menu, and selecting word count. Its not as comprehensive as the word version though, it only lists characters  and words.
Instead of having to select a paragraph of text by left clicking at the start of the text and dragging the cursor over the text you want...you can simply left click three times at the start of a paragraph of text and it will be selected. Give it a go...it's fun..
